Two killed in avalanche in Lofoten – Aftenposten

The two, a man and a woman, were reported missing after a trip in Kjerkfjorden area and was found by the crew of a Sea King helicopter as participated in the search operation Sunday night.

The police got the message that the two were missing at 16 o’clock after they had not returned after a trip in Kjerkfjorden / Merraflestinden in Moskenes municipality.

– There has been an entourage of five people who have traveled out in this area to go hiking on the weekend. They have been something together and then divided up, tells reporter Irene R. Skaue by JRCC Northern Norway.

The five were transported by boat to the roadless area and established a camp at Kjerkfjorden.

After the two were reported missing, was the rescue helicopter quickly put into exploration campaign and the crew found after a short time one of the two dead in an area north of 500 meters high Merraflestinden.

– It’s been a landslide, avalanche or landslide, in the area but we do not know the sequence of events, saying Skaue.

The dead were flown to Reine and then resumed the crew exploration and shortly later also found the other missing dead.

JRCC reports that both the victims residing in Nordland.
